The day you announced your pregnancy filled me with so much joy. A million thoughts danced around my head at the news… like will they be a girl or a boy? Will they look like you or maybe even a little like me? Will they have your amazing soul, your kindness and your empathy? Time will answer these questions, but there is one thing I already know for sure. My grandchild is going to have the best Mummy they could ever ask for. Trust me, you are going to be amazing and their Daddy will be too. But these words are not for him – they are especially for you. For a mother’s journey is different and one only another mother can share. A journey full of excitement, joy and a little bit of fear. A journey filled with doubts about yourself and questions you may not like the answer to. Like how much sleep will I actually get and are the stories about painful labour true? I may not be able to answer everything, but I promise to try my best if you ask. For I have been in your shoes and I understand that it is no easy task. I remember I could not get to sleep when I was pregnant because I always needed the loo. I remember the kicks, punches and wriggles that all came from you. I remember my belly growing so big that I could no longer see my feet. And I remember that when I saw you for the first time on my scan, my heart skipped a little beat. I also remember that when you were born my life changed forever. Yes, there were ups and downs, and sometimes I struggled to keep it together. You will feel this too because parenthood is no easy ride. Just remember you have me and I will always be by your side. No matter the issue, you can always count on me. I will always be there for you and forever will I be. I am so proud of you and I love you more and more each day. I cannot wait to see my grandchild and watch you give your heart away. They will be your always, your everything and your forever. They will be your greatest achievement and your most precious treasure. How do I know this? Because that is how I feel about you. You are the reason I know all of the above is true. You are my everything and even though you have your own baby on the way, you will always be my little girl and my little girl you will forever stay. Love Mum x
